15th March 2025 was my first proper gig at the King’s Head.
At the start, I wasn’t even sure I had the equipment to pull it off. So I reached out to Matt (DJ Matty H) and at the same time asked my friend Joe if he wanted to get involved and help capture the night.
In the lead-up to the gig, we had several rehearsals. We weren’t just running through songs — we were properly using the lighting and sound setup to see what it could do and how we could get the most out of it. That made a big difference going into the night, as we already had a feel for how everything would come together.
For the actual gig, we kept it to about an hour. The aim was just to test the crowd and see how it landed. We started off performing full songs, but early on it was clear we weren’t quite holding the crowd as well as we could.
So we adjusted it. Instead of running full tracks, I cut things down — first verse and chorus, keeping it tighter and more direct. From that point on, the energy completely changed.
There were around 100 people packed into the pub. It’s not a big venue, but with that many people in there it felt like 500. Once we found the right flow, the atmosphere lifted and the crowd were properly into it.
Joe did a great job capturing everything on the night, and Matt went all in with the DJ setup and lighting, which really helped bring it all together.
I didn’t even have the right clothes sorted, to be honest. I just improvised with whatever I had that gave off a bit of an Eminem feel and went with it.
Looking back, that night was the turning point. It wasn’t perfect at the start, but figuring it out in the moment and seeing the crowd respond showed there was something there — something worth building on. What started as a test quickly became the reason to take it seriously and make it a permanent thing.
I’d definitely go back to the King’s Head again. It was a solid first step.
